I am fooling around with layers (as well as fooling myself). This came out ehhhh....at least I THINK I understand layers now. Too bad Corel Painter or Photoshop software doesn't come with INSTRUCTIONS like OTHER items. Like your VCR.
Doberman Pinscher Layer Exercise 1 both in RIFF and JPEG Corel Painter X WACOM tablet stylus time: less than an hour, open canvas. Now if I can find out how to use BG layers on SCANNED artwork.... Boy there's alot to futz around with on Painter X
I'm not surprised that you Faved this. Thanks! That was one fast "tag". I think you did a small tut on layers and you used a Dobie, am I correct? Or a GSD. I might still have it somewhere....
(digs around...) I'm getting the hang of layers, slowly but slowly. Glad you like this. In some ways it WAS easier to use layers....less "mop up" on the canvas if I boobooed.

On my Corel (which is all I use now...PS got the boot) my Pen Tool on the Tool Box seems to be schematic line art thingy. Completely useless to me....I piddled around with it for the better part of 2 minutes and said "Crap. I'm on this longer than I wanna be" and canned it. I just stick to the paintbrush in the top lefthand corner (free-hand) and use "Pencils" from there.
The more bells and whistles you got, the more the potential for things to go wrong.

You use photoshop?
They have tutorials in the "help" menu
BTW do you know what the "pen" tool does? As far as I can see it just fills in the shape you draw. Useful and useless at the same time.
